The Camden Conference will present Cipperly Good, curator and collections manager of the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport, Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Belfast Free Library, 106 High St. Her talk, titled Maine in the China Trade, is free and open to all. Drugs, armed conflict and free trade - sound familiar? The First Opium War of the early 1840s, with British and Chinese fighting over the opium trade and Chinese sovereignty, opened up Chinese ports to the world.

A CHILD'S CHRISTMAS' IN WALDO COUNTY
The Penobscot Bay Singers will present "A Child's Christmas in Wales," a concert with narration from Dylan Thomas' holiday memoir, Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at Searsport Congregational Church, 8 Church St.; and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 47 Court St., Belfast. Snow dates are the following weekend .

NEARLY 30 YEARS OF TOP MIDCOAST STUDENT-ATHLETES RECOGNIZED
For nearly 30 years, Courier Publications and/or VillageSoup has recognized the top Midcoast high school male and female athletes. That again was the case for the 2017-18 school year as the organization's sports department whittled down from an extensive list of talented student-athletes to announce schoolboy and schoolgirl athletes of the year.
