COURT WON'T REOPEN LAWSUIT ABOUT CONFEDERATE-THEMED FLAG
A federal appeals court is not reviving a lawsuit that tried to block a Mississippi city from flying the state flag that includes the Confederate battle emblem. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals this week affirmed a district judge's decision that dismissed the lawsuit against Ocean Springs.

COURT OF APPEALS REJECTS MISSISSIPPI RISING APPEAL OF FLAG LAWSUIT AGAINST OCEAN SPRINGS
It appears the Mississippi Rising Coalition may be running out of options after the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously rejected its appeal of the dismissal of its lawsuit against the City of Ocean Springs over the flying of the Mississippi state flag. The appeals court upheld a June ruling by U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola Jr. in which Guirola dismissed the lawsuit on the grounds the plaintiffs, which included the MRC, president Lea Campbell, Jackson County NAACP director Curley Clark and two Ocean Springs residents, lacked the standing to file the suit.

A retired grandfather in Ocean Springs is taking action, saying he has had enough of heavy-footed drivers speeding past his grandson's school. Jeffrey Hayden donned a reflective safety vest Monday, waving at drivers to slow down in front of Taconi Elementary.

Nearly a hundred items are up for grabs this weekend as the City of Ocean Springs auctions off its surplus. City-owned vehicles and equipment will go at auction Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Ocean Springs Civic Center.
