In the final episode of "Mad Men," antihero advertising wizard and compulsive drinker and fornicator Don Draper, mired in a grave midlife crisis, finds himself not falling from a skyscraper as in the show's opening credits but sitting at a spiritual retreat on the coast of California that looks a lot like Big Sur's Esalen Institute. In the next-to-last shot, handsome Don is meditating in a meadow with a beatific smirk on his face - followed by the Coke commercial he would write on returning to New York, implicitly enlightened by the revelation that despite his existential miseries, advertising was his destiny.
